Billing and plans
This page documents the canonical beta plan limits, separate text and voice meters, paid overages, and current Stripe checkout and portal flows.
How does billing work?
Kai meters text tokens and voice time separately during each billing period. Text usage includes the visitor message and generated answer; answer size depends in part on the inline context used for that turn. Voice usage is measured in seconds and displayed in minutes.
The Settings page highlights either meter at 80%. Free has hard limits: text chat stops at 100,000 tokens, voice stops at 30 minutes, and access resumes when the period resets or the account upgrades. Free voice conversations also end after 5 minutes even when monthly voice allowance remains.
Growth and Scale continue past included usage. Estimated charges appear under each meter and as Estimated usage charges this period.
Which plans are available?
Kai has three public plans. Page limits are per site.
| Plan | Text allowance | Voice allowance | Sites | Pages/site | Sync |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | 100,000 tokens (~40 conversations) | 30 min (~10 conversations) | 1 | 50 | Daily |
| Growth | 1,500,000 tokens (~600 conversations) | 500 min (~165 conversations) | 3 | 500 | Daily + manual |
| Scale | 7,500,000 tokens (~3,000 conversations) | 3,000 min (~1,000 conversations) | 15 | 5,000 | Daily + manual |
Conversation estimates assume approximately 2,500 text tokens per conversation and roughly 3 voice minutes. Actual usage varies; the estimates are planning guidance, not additional allowances.
Which features are gated?
- Sites and pages: Creation and crawling stop at the plan limits above.
- Manual sync: Growth and Scale can select Crawl content after the initial crawl and refresh an existing URL with Fetch & add. Free receives daily checks but no manual refresh.
- Branding removal: Growth and Scale can use Hide branding. Free shows
Powered by Kai Roses. - Analytics: Every plan gets Messages, Conversations, and transcript deletion. Growth and Scale add Unique questions, Improvement opportunities, Top questions, and Peak times.
- Voice: All plans can enable voice. Only Free has the 5-minute per-conversation cap.
Scale includes everything in Growth plus priority support. Four Scale capabilities are displayed as Coming soon and are not current entitlements:
- Instant update webhooks
- Custom voice
- Public API and webhooks
- Five team seats
How do paid overages work?
Growth and Scale use the same rates:
- $0.04 per 1,000 text tokens beyond the included token allowance
- $0.15 per voice minute beyond the included voice allowance
Settings calculates estimates from current overage quantities. Free has no overage rate and is blocked at its included limits.
What does each paid plan cost?
Use the Annual and Monthly buttons in Settings before starting checkout:
| Plan | Monthly | Annual |
|---|---|---|
| Growth | $39/month | $29/month, billed $348/year |
| Scale | $199/month | $179/month, billed $2,148/year |
Annual is selected by default. Scale also notes that custom contracts are available.
How do I upgrade?
Free requires only an account. In Settings, Free accounts see Upgrade your plan, the interval selector, and separate Start Growth and Start Scale links.
Each start link opens the Stripe-hosted checkout URL for the selected monthly or annual price, with the signed-in email and user reference added when available. The dashboard does not use an embedded Stripe Pricing Table.
After Stripe confirms the subscription by webhook, the dashboard profile receives the new plan and allowances.
Paid accounts see Manage subscription instead of checkout cards. That button opens the Stripe Customer Portal to update plans, payment methods, or cancellation. Portal availability requires an active Stripe customer record.
How do I track usage?
Usage this period shows two cards:
- Text tokens: used tokens, included allowance, percentage, status, and paid overage estimate when applicable.
- Voice: used minutes, included minutes, percentage, status, and paid overage estimate when applicable.
Settings also shows the reset date, subscription status when applicable, current-period start, questions asked across all sites, estimated text conversations, and sites used versus the plan maximum.
Check both meters before campaigns or launches. Reaching either Free limit blocks that resource independently, while paid usage remains available with the documented overage charge.
